Pacific Play Company (PPC) is a new Seattle-based theatre company devoted to staging world and regional premiere plays by American playwrights with an emphasis on local writers. We value not only quality production elements, but strive for a creative and fun production environment. Pacific Play Company will be a locally run, locally cast, locally produced forum for emerging regional theatre artists in the Seattle Area. We seek to celebrate the collective imagination and encourage the exchange of ideas by presenting innovative and thought-provoking plays and events in the city of Seattle. We nurture local professional theatre artists and we contribute to the American theatre by commissioning, developing and presenting world premiere plays.
The Pacific Play Company was founded in 2011 as part of the independent theatre movement. What is independent theatre? To us, it means relying on and investing in our immediate theatre community. It means dedicating ourselves to ensuring the growth of our local artists by working with the incredible talent that already exists in the city of Seattle. It means utilizing our resources to create local theatre projects of excellence. This year we will not only strive to present cutting-edge new plays but we will generate and create two new shows for the company!
MORE ABOUT THEATRE
Last season we presented the Seattle premiere of the award-winning play, Everybody Here Says Hello by Stuart Bousel to sold-out audiences. We generated two new evenings of theatre Crime and Rockets a college of science fiction play about space and crime and Tall Tales of the Unnatural Frontier an evening of cowboy noir pieces by six amazing local playwrights, headed by Scotto Moore. We also presented the Seattle premiere of Ruth and the Sea starring local favorite Ruth McRee.
Pacific Play Company will be coming back with a Season of "Nymphs and Dragons" in 2017 and 2018. In December we take residence at the Annex Theatre in Capitol Hill and we are going to present the Seattle premiere of Nymph O' Mania a wild take off on a Midsummer Night's Dream set in a redwood forest which was a big hit in San Francisco. In March of 2018 we will be presenting a world premiere play by a local writer and in September 2018 we will be presenting Dragon Play by Jenny Connell Davis. It's all new, it's all presented by artists in the community, and it's coming to a theatre near you!
The production team members have a varied and combined background totaling several dozen productions of various sizes and budgets from New York to Phoenix and San Francisco. Pacific Play Company now in its 3rd full season - we are hoping to present some innovative and thought provoking work in the city of Seattle. We value not only quality production elements, but strive for a creative and fun production environment.
