Last year, Taproot Theatre sustained heavy smoke and water damage when an arsonist targeted the Greenwood area. The damage was pretty extensive, the video of a walk-through was heartbreaking. The fire in Greenwood last week has been ruled an arson, according to the Seattle Times. Fire investigators now believe the blaze that destroyed multiple businesses and damaged Taproot Theatre (or as the Seattle Times calls them, “Tap Root Theatre”) was intentionally set. Despite receiving some extensive damage in last Friday’s fire, Taproot Theatre has pledged today to continue their programs while picking up the pieces of their performance space. Thanks to the generosity of the local scene they closed out Enchanted April over the weekend at the Seattle Children’s Theatre. Apparently fire can’t even stop the mantra “The show must go on!” Their press release is below.
