Playlist Seattle presents original plays and performance pieces inspired by Seattle’s music. In March 2018, we are producing a series of performances entitled Women Who Rock, which will highlight the music of Brenda Xu, Prom Queen and The Black Tones.

We are seeking short (5-8 min) scripts based on songs from these artists to be produced as part of this exciting series. We expect to present 4-6 pieces for each musical artist, with a total of 12-20 produced during the course of the run. Each piece will be staged at least twice.

Scripts that are chosen for production will be awarded a $40 honorarium.

Guidelines for submission:
•   Please submit plays in pdf form to by Monday, January 29, 2018. We will choose plays within the following week, with rehearsal set to begin February 5.

•   Along with your script, please include the following with you submission:
        - current resume/CV
         - in the body of your email, give the title of the song the piece is inspired by, a short synopsis (no more than 100 words) and character breakdown

•   You can find each artist’s catalog of songs at the following links:

•   When choosing songs, please keep to those written by the artists, not covers they may have recorded.

Some Info about our productions:
•   The work Playlist Seattle does is to celebrate and honor the city’s musicians. We do not attempt a literal dramatization of a song’s lyrics or story, however, we also do not stray too far from the theme or ethos of the piece. A good example would be Alice in Chains song “The Rooster”. We did not present a story about Vietnam/Jerry Catrell’s father/A giant male chicken. Instead, we explored warfare of the not-so-distant-future, based on the use of drone soldiers.

•   We most often do not produce our shows at traditional theatre spaces. As with any evening of one-acts, complicated sets or special effects are not typically possible. That said, if there is a key element to your story that goes beyond the barebones, we’ll be happy to see how we might make it happen within our DIY aesthetic.
