Calling all writers:

In schools all around Washington, Book-It Repertory Theatre's Arts & Education Program currently uses the story of Humpty Dumpty in our adaptation workshop. This year we would like to replace that text with something new…written by you! Write a great story so students can adapt it into a great play.

Contest Criteria:

  • 50 words or less
  • Beginning, middle, end
  • 3 or more characters (human, non-human, or inanimate)
  • Appropriate for grades 3-6
  • Appropriate for school settings
  • Written in third person, may include dialogue

Possible themes: empathy, transformation, perseverance, standing up for what’s right, overcoming obstacles, adventure, curiosity, and self-confidence.

If we choose your story, you’ll be credited every time we use it in our Adapt It! Stage It! workshop, reaching approximately 70 classrooms and adapted by approximately 2,000 students throughout Washington state every school year! And you’ll be invited as our special guest to our annual education breakfast, Bringing Books to Life.

Submission deadline is July 25, 2014.

Email your original story to:
Natasha Ransom, Education Associate: natashar@book-it.org.
