The Empty Space is looking for Season Interns (September through May) in Marketing and in Development.

Interns are expected to work approximately 20 hours per week (schedules are decided individually with department heads).  Interns are highly valued members of our team; we trust interns with significant responsibilities in each department in the belief that it's an extremely valuable way to learn the practice of theater.  Unfortunately, internships are unpaid and we are unable to provide housing.

If you are interested in applying, please send a resume along with a cover letter which includes the following information:
·   What are your career goals?
·   What are your goals for an internship with The Empty Space?
·   In which department are you interested in interning? (You can list both as we are able to design an internship that covers marketing and development.)
To: Admin Intern
Empty Space Theatre
3509 Fremont Ave N
Seattle, WA 98103

Deadline for applications: September 1.

Marketing
The Marketing Intern will assist in all aspects of communication with the media, The Empty Space audiences, and the general public: generating story ideas, drafting news releases, designing direct mail pieces, writing program articles, creating displays, handling bulk mailings, updating mailing lists, assisting at photo shoots, monitoring the theater website, maintaining publicity files and archives, and generally helping develop and carry out creative low-cost plans to reach new audiences. Depending on your interests and aptitudes, you may also be given lead responsibility for a particular short-term campaign or project. Experience in desktop publishing and/or computer graphics is highly desirable.

Development
The Development Intern will assist in the theater’s fundraising efforts, including grants research, grant writing, budgeting and formal grant evaluations. The Development Intern will also help to manage individual giving, including solicitation, acknowledgement and donor database maintenance.  You will also assist with invitations, procurement and execution of our special events.  Depending on your interests and aptitudes, you may also be given lead responsibility for a particular short-term campaign or project.
