I'm pleased to say that the
University of Washington is considering offering a certificate program in
Stage Management. We expect this program to offer training to aspiring Stage Managers, as well as aspiring future Company Managers, Production Managers, and Managing Directors. See tentative curriculum below:
Format: Non-credit certificate with 3 required courses
One course each quarter, 30 hours of instruction per course (3 hours per evening, once a week, 10 weeks per quarter)
Fall:Introduction to Stage Management Creative and administrative work of a stage manager
Forms and formats
Protocols
Roles of a stage manager in production
Winter:Intermediate Stage Management Introduction to theatre technology, design, and directing, in the context of the role of the stage manager
Company management
Production management
Theatre management
Accessibility and disability in the theatre
Guest artists from the local arts community
Spring:Advanced Stage Management Advanced stage management problem-solving techniques
Group organizational dynamics
Stage and production management in a new building
Stage management on tour
Optional stage management practicum
Guest speakers/performers from the local arts community
Capstone student portfolio review
