crime and punishment

As soon as I saw the TPS listing I knew I had to see this show: Dostoyevsky, Galen Osier, and CHAC, a triple bingo, and believe me I wasn't disappointed! Amazing that this one act can so completely capture the intrigue, suspense and high drama of the novel, with only three actors. I can find no fault with the production but kept thinking that Galen Joseph Osier should receive an award for his compelling characterization of deperation, delusion and heroism. As he was justifying his crime, looking at us, so personally, I nearly yelled out to him, "but what about Lizaveta"!
This is also the best thing I've seen Hana Lass do since Travesties.

Thanks for your posts, fellas!
Here's the hot off the press review in this week's Stranger, which calls the show "entertaining and nuanced":
http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=237709
Speaking of hot, the review mentions the theater was toasty during opening weekend. The heat only added to the intensity!
But rest assured,
air conditioning will be in effect for future performances
, keeping everyone cool as cucumbers. So get your tickets, come early to the Lower Level to get your drink, and bring it with you into the refreshingly air conditioned theater. Booze. Air conditioning. Great theater. Three great tastes that go you know what. Hope to see you there!

I'm not a fan of the Russian's, Tolstoy & Dostoyevsky in particular, who as a general rule I find long-winded to the point of infuriation. But, I have to say, this adaptation cuts away all the fat and gristle, leaving just the lean meat of what turns out to be a fairly modern tale of psychological depth and almost noirish atmosphere. The performances are strong, nuanced, and in all three cases, some of the best work I've seen from these actors.
You don't have to know a thing about the novel to "get" the piece, and in fact, ignorance may actually be of benefit in this case, since you literally don't know what you're missing, and can therefore enjoy the story as it's presented.
Good work all around, and definitely worth seeing.

Having never read the book ( for shame Lisa!!!!) I was worried about getting lost with the story. As previously mentioned above the story was cut down to it's core and was riveting! Three actors, simple set and kept me on the edge the entire time. Kudos especially to my beloved GI Joe for owning that stage. I am a fan of Mark Fullerton's from a long time and am adding Hana Lass to the list. Amazing work you guys!!!!

After the show on Sunday, July 8, join us for a post-play discussion themed "Long Book, Short Play: The Making of a Lean, Mean Adaptation." Ask questions, share your reactions, find out how actors memorize all of those lines, anything goes!
It'd be great to see you there!
NOTE:
In honor of
14/48: The World's Quickest Theater Festival,
there are no performances of
Crime and Punishment
the weekends of July 13 and July 20. Shows will resume on July 27.
Now with air conditioning,
Crime and Punishment
is literally a cool show! Hope you can check it out!

Katherine Hepburn did indeed have a flair for the dramatic! But not to worry, we prefer to keep the drama on the stage.
Crime and Punishment
Enters Its 3rd Month!
Seattle weather forecast for this weekend
Friday: potent and 78

Theater Under Ground presents the award winning 90 minute meditation on faith and redemption that´s made Seattle audiences gasp and critics rave, declaring the show ¨potent¨ (Seattle P-I), ¨ferocious¨, ¨hard-hitting¨(Seattle Times), ¨entertaining and nuanced¨ (The Stranger).
