3  TPS Message Boards (requires ID & Password to post) / Employment / Broadway Bound Children’s Theater Seeks Interns on: December 05, 2013, 04:40:45 PM
Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre is currently seeking interns for its 2014 Spring Season!

Are you interested in gaining real experience to prepare you for working in professional theatre?  Do you have a passion for the production and technical side of theatre, especially musical theatre?  Do you want to learn what it means to work as a theatre artist and help develop the next generation of theatre lovers?

Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre, located in the University District of Seattle, has been enriching the lives of children through theatre for over 17 years.  Our vision at Broadway Bound is to help children and teens develop core life values through the tradition, process and discipline of live musical theatre.   With the internship program, our goal is to expand that mission to include technical theatre as well.  Our production and technical staff are theatre professionals with years of industry experience who know what it’s really like to work as a freelance theater professional.  Interns shadow the production process, culminating in their work as the run crew during performance.  Interning at Broadway Bound also holds the potential for future work, as we are always accepting resumes for designers, technicians, directors, choreographers and stage managers.

Interns for the 2014 Spring Season will work on two productions, Honk! and Grease, with performances in May and June 2014.

Currently, we are seeking a total of six interns for interested in working in Technical Theatre.  Interns will work within all technical departments, learning a breadth of skills in a variety of capacities.  Each intern will be allowed to pursue their interests within Technical Theatre, as well as expand their skill set by working in various capacities.  Backstage crew positions are then assigned prior to dress rehearsals based upon where we think individuals will fit the best.

The different departments you will be working in are as follows:

Costumes: Working directly with the Costume Designer, you will assist during fittings, pulls, and builds as well as a dresser for quick changes.

Lighting: Working directly with the Lighting Designer, you will learn the process of design, plot, hang and focus, cue recording and follow-spot operation.

Scenic:  Working directly with the Scenic Designer and Master Carpenter, you will learn the design, build, load-in and strike of sets and stage dressings, and plan and assist set changes.

Sound: Working directly with the Sound Designer, you will learn about the compilation, creation and engineering of sound effects, as well as patching and mixing the sound for a 6-7 piece live band and wireless microphones for casts of 30+ performers.

Stage Management:  Working directly with the Stage Managers, you will learn the ins and outs of managing a production and working directly with directors, choreographers and performers.

Applicants should expect to commit a variable time commitment, as you will be working with freelance artists.  Evening and weekend availability during tech, dress and performances is absolutely necessary.

Interested candidates should reply with a cover letter, resume and at least 1 reference to anthony@broadwaybound.org.  Positions are open until filled, so the sooner the application is submitted the higher the chance of acceptance.  Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.  Only local candidates will be considered.  Interns are paid a stipend of $250 for the entirety of the run.
