Beyond Bodies in Seats: Marketing Workshop By Shane Regan, on January 19, 2011, at 4:56 pm | Category: workshops
PLEASE NOTE: THE DATES HAVE CHANGED Beyond Bodies in Seats Authentic Marketing for Arts Organizations
GROW YOUR AUDIENCE and INCREASE YOUR IMPACT! 3 Days- April 9, 10, 16 9:30 am-6:00pm $165.00 per participant- must be a member of TPS. Group size limited to 8.
Learn the basics of a new marketing approach that can help support your company’s goals for years to come. Significantly increase audience attendance, donations, and volunteer input while reducing or at least not significantly increasing your current marketing budget. For almost all mid sized arts organizations it IS possible to build a new and vibrant audience base, even in a bad economy.
Significant growth is possible when you start taking audience development as seriously as you take artistic development: • Re energize your marketing strategies, or create new ones. • Learn how to make selling tickets to your shows easier and more fun. • Get your existing patrons to bring in more new audience members • Create a comprehensive marketing plan for your organization • Avoid common mistakes and learn the right way to use Social Media to market your theatre. • Help your artists and marketing volunteers to know what to do and when to do it.
Perfect for marketing staff, artistic directors and artists hoping to start their own organizations. This four-day seminar will take you through the basics of redefining your market niche, creating a compelling message and developing a new plan of innovative marketing strategies. You will explore ways to make your message more effective and get it out to new audiences. You will leave the workshop with your own personalized written plan of action for attracting and keeping new audiences and new volunteers. You will also learn from local organizations about their “best practices” and get a chance to brainstorm with other arts marketers, sharing similar challenges.
Unlike other marketing seminars, this theatre marketing workshop: **Will give you tangible simple steps that even a “non-marketer” can follow. **Is geared to low budget methods and innovative ideas rather than expensive advertising or complex initiatives. **Covers the latest research in audience development and shows you how to take specific steps to leave behind old methods that are no longer working and replace them with new and more effective tactics **Will directly address the impact this economy is having on small arts organizations and give you practical suggestions for how to adapt. **Is hands-on. We will help you develop action steps for YOUR theatre or arts organization. **Is focused on marketing for the arts and led by a marketing expert who is also a theatre practitioner, and therefore understands the art community’s particular challenges and opportunities.

She has had 7 successful businesses of her own, and has served as a marketing director or board member for many theatres. She has been offering the “Bodies in Seats” Workshops to rave reviews in both Colorado and in Seattle since 2006.

You should plan on having the same person from your organization attend all 4 days of the workshop in order to get the full usefulness and benefit of this work.
Special Note: This workshop usually sells for $365 per person, but as they do every year, Theatre Puget is making this available to members at less than half the normal rate. Social Media Marketing For Theatres A 6 week class in Authentic Arts Marketing on a Budget 6 Wednesdays: March 30th –May 5th 10:00-11:30am Pacific Time, USA Delivered by teleconference and webinar Cost $157 if you register before March 25th, Group Size limited to 8. Stop wasting money on theatre marketing that doesn’t work, and time on a social media plan that is inadequate. You can grow your theatre audience through Social Media- if you know how to do it right!Join us for a step-by-step guide to using social media tools like Facebook, Meetup, YouTube blogs, newsletters and more to get people actively engaged in attending your performances and helping you to grow your organization. Unlike most social media workshops- this one is exclusively for THEATRE and will address the unique needs challenges and opportunities when marketing live performing arts on-line. We will cover:
• How to prepare your website for your social media campaign and why, if your site is not ready, your social media campaigns might not work. • How social media differs from traditional marketing and why it’s growing so fast • 5 golden rules for effective social media communication • The most effective ways to use social media to increase participation and tools that will save you time and effort • 5 key social media tools and where they are best used – including Facebook, Meetup, YouTube, Groupon and blogs • The 3 key mistakes most Theatres make that dilute or nullify their social media efforts and how to avoid them. • Ways to get ahead of the social media curve so that during the busy times in your marketing season (which are also the busy times in your production schedule) your organization doesn’t “drop the ball.” • The hidden social media tool that is uniquely suited for theatres but that few people talk about when they talk about “social media marketing.” • Case studies of best practice from small, mid-sized and larger regional theatres that have all used Social Media to increase audience participation and reduce marketing costs. Who Can Benefit From This Workshop:This online workshop is aimed at organizations that are just starting out using social media for promoting activity, or who have attempted to use social media and found themselves stagnating or getting less return on their time investment than they had hoped. Your organization might have a Facebook page, or Twitter profile, or be experimenting with Groupon and Meetup but be wondering what to do with it and if what you are doing is actually driving audiences to your venue or just wasting your time. Or you might not have anything set up at all. Either way we can help you refine your process, gain confidence and track your results. Because this is not a two hour “lecture and leave” workshop, but an ongoing in-depth class you will be able to apply your learning in a variety of ways and from a variety of viewpoints. As a result, marketing managers, artistic directors, managing directors and interns and volunteers can all benefit from this workshop and contribute to their organization afterwards while maintaining their unique roles and perspectives. Hey Jim- thank you for the post!
I am constantly banging the drum on this point. We need to invite people into our club and tell them how we are meeting their needs and how they will have great experiences with our arts organizations. We need to help them to care. We need to stop just telling them they should support us because arts are important and if they don't come out and see shows our organizations will die. They don't care until we make it about them and show them how are art can enrich their worlds.
Good art is wonderful, but good art that we actually share with full, vibrant, curious audiences is POWERFUL.
So I am all about meeting to discuss these ideas. AND- I am booked that night. Is there a possibility of a 2nd meeting on a different day?
