TPS Message Boards (requires ID & Password to post) / Classes & Workshops / On-Camera - One-Day Intensive with Paul Kampf
|
on: July 19, 2012, 10:44:15 AM
|
Hello fellow actors and artists, I have an exciting opportunity for those looking for some on-camera training in order to bring another approach to their work. A friend of mine has trained with Paul Kampf of the Performing Arts Institute in Los Angeles and RAVES about his insight into building a character and practically putting this work into play outside of the classroom. It's a fascinating approach that seems easy to repeat during an audition or while finding a way into the text. We've asked Paul to come to Seattle to teach a one day workshop on his method. He teaches workshops in New York, Chicago, LA and Portland and has always wanted to teach in Seattle after hearing of our talented community of actors. When talking with my Seattle theater actor friends, many have expressed the desire to move from theater to on-camera work, but have had trouble transitioning. I've talked this over with Paul and he is happy to focus on practical ways to transition, while delving deeper into the approach with those who have a bit more experience in the area. He made the transition from theater to camera himself and has a lot of pointers for those feeling the difference. Feel free to email Paul if you have questions. He's a great guy with lots of enthusiasm for his tribe - the actor. I hope to see you there! Seattle One-Day Intensive with Paul Kampf of the Performing Arts InstituteSaturday, August 11, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.ACT Theatre
This is a practical, dynamic and highly effective process for developing your exceptional instrument and will teach you to teach yourself how to eliminate the distance between IMAGINATION and EXPERIENCE. The techniques covered in this workshop give the actor the practical tools to transition from stage to screen, without losing the power and depth of experience cultivated for the stage. The ApproachPaul focuses on freeing your gifts as an actor through exercises that harness the imagination and access life in the body. When you learn visceral and repeatable triggers, you will find a depth of truth in your work like you’ve never experienced. During this one-day Intensive, you will learn techniques that reveal your character’s emotional state, rhythm and thought process. Moreover, it will give you control of your work in the most profound way. Schedule 10-11 a.m. - Introductions, discussion, preparation, laying the foundation for the day 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - The power of atmosphere, psychological action and effective inner dialogue. Your unique talent revealed, experienced and cataloged 1-2:00 p.m. - Lunch break 2:00-6:00 p.m. - Application to circumstance, script and character Cost: $125 Location: ACT Theatre 700 Union St. Seattle 98101 – Allen Theatre Registration: To sign-up or for more information, visit: http://paitraining.com/457-2 Participants will be asked to submit a headshot and resume or link to your webpage/reel. All work is done on camera and participants receive a video download link. About Paul Kampf: Paul is the founder and Master Teacher at P.A.I. Training in Los Angeles. His training methods and dedication to the professional actors in his program have led to unique levels of success. His student base continues to make its mark on film, television and the stage. The program’s growth and success is a reflection of Paul’s exclusive approach and the type of talented, dedicated students that seek P.A.I.’s approach and supportive atmosphere. Paul is a very active writer/director/producer with a rare dedication to truly developing talent. He put his passion for training into action and made the small feature film From Grace. This project has led to the development of Film Lab, a professional production wing of P.A.I. Training. Before transitioning to film, Paul spent fifteen years building Breadline Theatre Group in Chicago. Under Paul’s guidance, the company produced thirty world-premiere plays, and created one of the most unique arts centers in the city. He has taken his playwrighting skills and honed them for the screen, creating sought after roles and unique stories for audiences. Learning from his experiences in world-premiere theater, Paul has built strong bridges to private equity partners to help empower the artist and protect the investor. He is also constantly exploring new financing/production methods that create a win-win for artists and investors. In between teaching and production obligations, Paul contributes to his blog, The Right to Act and continues to work on an acting book and a video series that highlights the specific techniques he has developed.

TPS Message Boards (requires ID & Password to post) / Project Promotion / Seattle Playwright, Pamela Sackett, presents Two Minutes to Shine at Elliot Bay
|
on: August 22, 2008, 04:58:34 PM
|
|
An engaging evening is at hand as Seattle playwright, teacher, and writer Pamela Sackett hosts the publication of her newest volume of audition monologues, Two Minutes to Shine, Book 5 (Samuel French, Inc. New York).
Location: Elliott Bay Book Company in Pioneer Square, 101 South Main Street, Seattle, WA 98104
When: Monday, August 25, 7:30PM
$5 recommended donation at the door (proceeds going to the performers).
As has happened with past such evenings, a number of Seattle performing luminaries will be on hand to show what these monologues are made of. Among those expected this evening are: David Silverman, Jacqueline Moscou, Michael J. Loggins, Molly Lyons, Sue Ellen Katz, Guy Nelson, with others on tap.
"There is no one better than Pamela Sackett writing custom-made monologues for actors. It is enervating as a director to have to sit through the same material day after day. Do yourself a favor, audition with something written by Pamela that is off the beaten track--you may get the job." - Ted Sod.
"Pamela Sackett is a comedic treasure of a playwright. Her quirky and hilarious monologues (each individually wrapped and sized) make auditioning a joy!" - Julie Daniels.
Here is what Pamela has to say:
Please join me in celebrating my fifth book in the series with some of the truly dynamic actors who have been on board since the first in the series was joyfully launched, circa late 80's...and with some exciting new actors as well!
This event gives a rare window into just what might occur during an actor audition...hopefully, an engaging display of a full range of emotions as well a daring demonstration that fits Elliott Bay Book Company's August theme: "Stirrings Underneath."

More information: www.artswest.org or (206) 938-0339 Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story, a dramatic musical about two of the most infamous murderers of the 20th century, opens at ArtsWest Feb. 28 with the playwright and composer Stephen Dolginoff traveling to Seattle from his home in New York to take one of the two lead roles. Winner of a Drama Desk Award this year, Thrill Me recounts the chilling tale of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, two men who killed a young boy in 1924 because they wanted to prove they were capable of committing the perfect crime. Dolginoff goes beyond the journalistic story reported at the time to vividly capture the unscrupulous obsession between these men as it descended from mutual sexual attraction into a dangerous criminal fixation. In the Seattle premiere of Thrill Me, Dolginoff will take on the role of Nathan Leopold, a part he also played in New York. Playing opposite him as Richard Loeb is John Bartley (Blood Brothers, tick, tick...BOOM!) It's a riveting musical for mature audiences only, a show that was universally praised in its highly successful engagement Off-Broadway at the York Theatre. "I think that audiences seem to respond to different things," said playwright/composer/actor Dolginoff . "Some (respond) to the "thriller" aspects of the show, some to the historical content, and many people have told me that in a strange way, they see themselves in the relationship aspect of the show--almost as a cautionary tale. Thrill Me does ask the question: how far would you go for someone you loved?" In 85 minutes and 15 songs, Thrill Me offers a thought-provoking examination of the relationship between Leopold and Loeb, ultimately leaving the audience to decide, just who was manipulating whom? Tickets: $10 to $29 at (206) 938-0339 or www.artswest.org Showtimes 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays through March 24 and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through March 18.
