Intro to Dance for Musical Theatre

Acting on Impulse

Playwriting Workshop with Peggy Shaw of Split Britches Theatre Company

Peggy Shaw - "That's the way I've learned theater-by being told to trust my stories, that they're valuable, but also to trust my body, that when it moves and I make a sound, whatever comes out is the truth, or the first thing that comes out is the most creative thing even if it sounds wrong or stupid or not politically correct or boring. When I write a show, I practice-write, I go, Okay, ten minutes and I don't take my pen off the paper, that's the only way I write."

Split Britches has been on the cutting edge of feminist theatre, lesbian theatre, gender queering theatre, and contemporary theatre generally-both in the US and internationally-since the 1970's.

Information Technology for Theatre Managers

Barry Pollack, Modern Classics, Inc.

All theaters have the same range of complex information needs, regardless of their size. We must schedule performances, manage a box office, raise money, maintain mailing lists, run marketing programs, manage volunteers, and often, run a theater school. Smaller theaters usually lack the budget to support an IT department, or to purchase computer hardware and dedicated software necessary for all those needs. This workshop is an opportunity for theater managers to share their successes and frustrations in dealing with their information technology needs. The facilitator will provide expertise in the field and some materials to help theater managers organize their IT requirements and scenarios.

Collaborative Audience Development

TPS Staff & Members

Getting at the heart of what makes people go to theatre and what prevents people from attending more theatre is vital for the health of our local theatre community. This session will employ audience input, survey and interview results and a roundtable discussion aimed at providing theatre companies specific strategies for connecting with and building sustainable audiences. We will also reveal results and demographic information from Live Theatre Week and Free Night of Theatre and discuss how we can continue to foster and develop collaborative audience development initiatives to increase our impact in the community.

Saturday, October 21
