BUMBERSHOOT ANNOUNCES
NEW REGIONAL THEATRE SHOWCASE
PRODUCED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THEATRE PUGET SOUND
SEATTLE - Bumbershoot®, the Seattle Arts Festival
announces a new showcase of regional theatre groups
including comedies, dramas, musicals, theater for
youth, performance art, radio plays and late night
theater. The regional theater sampler was produced
and curated in partnership with Theatre Puget Sound
(TPS) and will take place August 30 - September 1
at the Theatre Puget Sound Center House Theatre Stage.
"Theatre Puget Sound sent a call for submissions
out to its membership and the response was tremendous,"
explains Bumbershoot Artistic Director Michele Scoleri.
"From late night favorites like Theater Schmeater's
'Twilight Zone' to experimental plays like Maria Glanz'
'See Me Naked' to kid-friendly shows like Joe Boston's
'The Big Time!,' we've put together a lively showcase
of locally-produced theater."

Bumbershoot will transform the 74 acre Seattle Center
into more than 20 stages and exhibit spaces and present
the talents and labors of over 2,500 artists for four
days: August 29 - September 1.
Along with hundreds of national and regional musicians
of almost every genre, Bumbershoot offers a wide variety
of arts and artists, including the 1 Reel Film Festival
which screens over 120 short films throughout the
weekend, a first-class comedy festival, an uproarious
poetry slam, a dozen contemporary art exhibits, zine-making
workshops, kids programming, circus artists, hiphop
dance and much more.
Tickets to Bumbershoot, which include admission
to all Bumbershoot programs on a firstcome, first-served
basis, are just $15 per day if purchased before August
22 ($20 per day after 8/22). Two-day passes are $28
($35 after 8/22) and four-day passes, good for the
whole festival, are just $48 ($54 after 8/22). Discounted

A Theater Under the Influence's Radio Activity Project
Three episodes of vintage radio (from Flash Gordon,
Helen Trent and Suspense) performed as if in broadcast
studio of the era, with live sound and music effects
and a "back story" between shows. Players:

Wing-it Productions "Twisted Flicks"
"Twisted Flicks" is America's only improvised
movie show. Since 1997, this Seattle-based improv
group has been bringing their unique form of audience
participation movies to Northwest audiences each
weekend. A movie experience like no other, classic
"B" movies screen in the background without
their original soundtrack. All dialog, sound effects
and music are improvised by Wing-It's team of players,
based on suggestions from the audience. The result
is wild, unpredictable and very funny.

Maria Glanz, "See Me Naked"
Beginning with a striptease that goes hilariously
wrong, "See Me Naked" unfolds as a funny,
spontaneous, sometimes interactive, always surprising,
ultimately touching meditation on nakedness.

Burnt Studio will present an excerpt from their
award winning production Progression, an
exhilirating blend of movement, dance and high theatricality
that wages war on social and gender politics.Progression
has been lauded as "inventive, smart, smart-ass
and expertly done" by The Georgia Straight,
Vancouver, BC. The Seattle P-I proclaimed it
"a stunning dance/theatre marriage...a tour
de force." Progression was awarded Artistic
Pick of the 1999 Seattle Fringe and is currently
being redeveloped for a run at HERE Arts Center
in New York City.
