Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for its production of the World Premiere drama, Shattering, written by Pat Montley. Shattering was one of six productions chosen from the AACTNewPlayFest held every two years. The production will be directed by Chris Serface.

Auditions will be held Sunday, November 3rd and Monday, November 4th at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set starting at 6:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm on Monday in five-minute increments. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, November 6th.

Jonah has just been released from juvenile commitment into the foster care of Jacqueline Dawson, whose estranged son was murdered by a gang that Jonah was a part of. She witnessed the crime and testified against the other two perpetrators. Now the gang leader who organized that crime wants to teach a lesson about what happens to “snitches.” He orders Jonah to torture and kill Jacqueline—or be killed himself. The instructions come through Jonah’s girlfriend LaBelle, whose investment in the outcome is intensified by her pregnancy. Jonah and LaBelle plot the murder, even as Jonah’s relationship with the strict but caring Dawson develops, and his imagined visits with her dead son jar his conscience. When he has a change of heart, it is too late, and Dawson urges him to go through with the murder.

Auditioners are asked to prepare a short, 1-2 minute, contemporary dramatic monologue.

There are four roles available for African American actors: Jonah (playable age 14) recently released from juvenile commitment; Jacqueline “DeeDee” Dawson (female 50-60) an astrophysicist and atheist; LaBelle (playable age 14) Jonah’s girlfriend; Sonny (male 20-25) DeeDee’s dead son, a Christian Fundamentalist. Ages given are playable ages, actors need not specifically fit the given age to audition.

To reserve an audition time, follow this link (http://castingmanager.com/audition/info/Z9W1KpnviRBdPeS), or call our Box Office for assistance at (253) 272-2281.

Once cast, Shattering will run from Friday, January 24, 2020 to Sunday, February 9, 2020.
