Call for actor submissions for a stage adaptation of George Orwell's 1984. The production will run at 18th & Union in February and March, 2020, opening 17 days before Washington State's presidential primary election.
In this adaptation by Michael Gene Sullivan, head writer of San Francisco Mime Troupe, clandestine revolutionary Winston Smith has already been captured and is being interrogated by members of the Party in the infamous Room 101. Reading Winston's diary, the party members re-enact the story leading up to his imprisonment. The adaptation was first produced by The Actors' Gang in Los Angeles, CA. This production will be directed by Radial Theater Project and 18th & Union producing director David Gassner.
We are seeking three middle-aged white male actors to play members of Oceania's Inner Party, and one of any ethnicity for the role of Winston Smith.
This is an ensemble production, with most actors on stage for the entire play. Most actors will be called to all rehearsals; the one exception is O'Brian, who is only heard over loudspeakers for the first part of the show. In submission, please note any conflicts with the rehearsal and performance schedule:
