Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Please Read: The characters in The Originals will be cast regardless of the actors' age, race, gender identity, or ability. We encourage performers of all types to submit. By casting the play as such, we not only aim to engage under-invited artists and their communities, but the story of the play, which is one about privilege, class, the education system, and the abuse of power, becomes the focus.
ALDERIDGE - 17yo - Head Prefect, tasked with getting a confession from one of the accused. He takes his job as head Prefect very seriously, though he breaks a lot of rules himself. He can be described as judicious, patient, persuasive, secretive, and opportunistic.
HARDING - 17yo - Deputy Head Prefect, the enforcer in Alderidge’s interrogation. His buttons are easily pushed. Can be described as rash, violent-tempered, with an inferiority complex.
H.W. VAN DOREN - 16yo - One of the accused students, he enjoys making a mockery of the interrogation and obviously loves pushing buttons. He is fiercely intelligent. Can be described as verbose, subversive, guarded, cunning, bombastic.
CHADWICK MCCOY - 16yo - One of the accused students, is worried how this episode may affect his well-planned future. He is intelligent and can easily spot Alderidge’s hypocrisy, though he does not give much away. Can be described as clever and observant.
ROGER PERKINS - 16yo - One of the accused students, younger than the others but a prefect-in-the-making. He is devoted to Alderidge and prides himself on his honesty though he slowly realizes Aldergidge may have faults. Not one for words he listens attentively throughout.
