Red Curtain announces auditions for the tragic Americana play, "Dark of the Moon," written by Howard Richardson & William Berney, directed by Scott Randall & Joe Goins.
Set in the Appalachian Mountains and written in an Appalachian dialect, the play centers on the character of John, a witch boy who seeks to become human after falling in love with a human girl, Barbara Allen. Originally written in 1939 as a dramatization of the centuries-old European folk song "The Ballad of Barbara Allen". John's love for Barbara compels him to give up his immortality so that he can marry her. However, she must stay faithful to him for one year, or else the spell will be broken, and Barbara will die.
This is a large cast show, similar in terms of cast breakdown to "Our Town". The play contains mature content including anti-religious sentiment, rape, occultism, death of an infant (offstage) and sexual situations.
Performances will be October 18-November 3, 2019, with shows at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, 2pm on Sundays. All showings are at the Red Curtain Arts Center.
We are located in the Goodwill shopping center, with our entrance in the back, behind the cosmetology school.
The play contains mature content including anti-religious sentiment, rape, occultism, death of an infant (offstage) and sexual situations.
