Seattle G&S is excited to produce Kander & Ebb's CABARET, performing in the main space at 12th Avenue Arts.

The show is centered around the Kit Kat Club, an exclusive cabaret in Berlin, and its patrons as they experience the rise of far-right fascism in 1929 and 1930. This production will work to transform the theater into an intimate venue with on-stage seating, a working bar on stage, audience interaction, etc.

We are looking for charismatic performers with strong backgrounds in dance, voice, and acting, as well as a few performer / instrumentalists.

Seattle G&S is intentional about pursuing a diverse and equitable culture, both on stage and off. Performers from all ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender presentations are encouraged to audition.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
We are looking for strong vocalists and dancers to fill the following roles. Additionally, there may be roles for actor/musicians who play the following instruments: piano, tenor or alto sax, and violin or viola.

- Master of Ceremonies
The vivacious, charming, wicked host of the Kit Kat Club. Extremely comfortable with audience interaction and improvisation. (21 – 55, any gender presentation)

- Sally Bowles
The star of the Kit Kat Club, she is overpoweringly charismatic, confident, and desperate. Extremely strong belt with strong dance background. (25 – 45, female presenting)

- Cliff Bradshaw
An American writer, losing his innocence in Berlin. Cynical, easily flustered, and desperate. (22 – 35, male presenting)

- Fraulein Schneider
A landlady. She is gruff but a romantic at heart and finds herself trapped in an impossible situation. (40 – 65, female presenting)

- Herr Schultz
An older Jewish man who owns a fruit shop. An idealist, he is blind to the changes in the world around him. (40 – 65, male presenting)

- Ernst Ludwig
A charming, affable agent working for the Nazis. (21 – 55, male presenting)

- Fraulein Kost
A sex worker. Smart, a survivor, she finds herself caught up in something she doesn’t understand. (21 – 35, female presenting)

- Kit Kat Club Performers
Strong dancers and vocalists of all gender expressions. Most cast members will be part of the Kit Kat ensemble and will step out to cover principal and supporting roles. The exact breakdown will be determined after auditions and callbacks.

CABARET contains strong sexual content, some partial nudity, and depictions of domestic violence and violence motivated by hatred for race and sexual orientation. Please do not hesitate to talk with the creative team about any concerns you may have in these regards.

Audition/Interview Dates:
Sunday, August 18: 12pm - 6pm. Monday, August 19: 7pm - 10pm.

Callbacks or second audition/interview?
Callbacks and a dance call will be held Sunday, August 25, and Monday, August 26.

Audition Requirements:
Auditioners are asked to prepare a verse and a chorus from two contrasting pieces that showcase you as a performer. At least one of these should have a contemporary "belt" or pop sound. Please prepare pieces that highlight both your acting and vocal ability.

There are a few roles that do not necessarily require a vocal training. If you would like to attend a dance call to be considered strictly as a dancer / performer, please also reach out and we'll be happy to invite you to the dance call.

Auditioners are asked to bring two nonreturnable copies of their headshot (or clear photograph) and current performance resume.

Additionally, please come with the dates of all confirmed and potential conflicts during the contract period (October 6 - Dec 15).

More information about the audition location, rehearsal schedules, production, etc will be sent out in the email confirming your audition.

Monetary compensation:
All performers receive a stipend of $500.
