    The auditions will be held on Monday, July 22nd at location in either the Capitol Hill area or Rainer Valley (confirmation of the venue is pending).

Brownbox Theatre is proud to announce auditions for BLACK D*CK MATTERS by Kathya Alexander and Reneschia Brown, the award winning writers of "Black to My Roots: African American Tales from the Head and Heart."

Seeking African, Black, African American actors, representing a variety of ages, experiences and backgrounds.

The cast will consist of four (4) male actors and three (3) female actresses for a total of seven (7) roles.

BLACK D*CK MATTERS will be presented for four (4) performances in August at the Calamus Auditorium on Capitol Hill. The performances will consist of a special preview on Thursday, August 22nd and then three regular performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, August 29th, 30th, and 31st.

Provocative title aside, Alexander and Brown have joined forces to write a serious exploration - sexuality, history, state sanctioned violence, popular culture, and collective experience - of Black men in the US and the diaspora.

Please note, the script contains profanity and some sexually explicit material.

 

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Provocative title aside, the piece is a serious evening of theatre.

Seeking African, Black, African American actors, representing a variety of ages, experiences and backgrounds.

The cast will consist of four (4) male actors and three (3) female actresses for a total of seven (7) roles.

Ideal candidates will be comfortable with movement / dance (their may be some choreography and possible step routine).

Please note, the script contains profanity and some sexually explicit material. There is no acting out violence (sexual or otherwise) in relation to the show.

Audition/Interview Dates:
Auditions, Monday, July 22

Callbacks or second audition/interview?
Callbacks may be on Tuesday or Wednesday evening of that week

Audition Requirements:
Prepare a contemporary monologue. There will be a cold reading from script. Be prepared to learn a short movement piece and/or possible step routine.

Monetary compensation:
A small honorary stipend will be provided.
