Nearly a month ago, you may have seen that we posted an audition listing for a production of Annie Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation. That is, and remains, a great play. But we’ve just been given the opportunity to produce her 2017 work The Antipodes and we couldn't pass up the chance to introduce this powerful, unsettling play to the Seattle community.
The Antipodes is about stories: who tells them, who hears them, how they're made, how they make our world. It’s about access: who is allowed to speak, and who gets excused from listening. It’s about the slipperiness of truth and the weird, incisive power of fiction. It’s about myths and monsters. It’s about giant cosmic changes and tiny human ones.
It’s also about the singular ability of a conference room of people to decimate a pallet of LaCroix.
Performances will occur at the Slate Theater, August 9-25 for a total of 13 performances. Rehearsals will occur at either the Slate or TPS.
Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Adam (25-45): A lover of mythology, great at synthesizing ideas into something new, gets chronic migraines, less comfortable in this cis, white male-led writer's room than they let on. Preferably person of color. Uses he/him pronouns; assigned male at birth; not necessarily cisgender.
Josh (25-45): Very excited to work with Sandy, worried about getting fired, keeps getting faced with more "new hire" paperwork for no clearly stated reason. Very into alternative conceptions of time. All ethnicities. Uses he/him pronouns.
