I will be casting, based on Equity Membership (must be AEA) and the breakdown above.
This will be an Equity Reading. The plan is to gather on Wednesday, July 17 at 3:30 in the Black Box Theater of TPS, to do a read-through with start and stop, then get some dinner, and start the public reading at 7:00.
Must be Equity (AEA) for this and please adhere to the casting breakdown above and the age ranges. We are looking for Filipina and Filipino actors for Mimi and Ferd and are open to AEA Members of any origin for V and Alice.
Character Breakdown / Project Needs
MIMI: Female, mid 50's (55-60). Very loosely based on Imelda Marcos. In an ideal world, played by a Filipina actor. But it’s more important for this reading for the actor to be able to play big and theatrical in a way that’s grounded, to be evasive, a bit conniving, and even lie sometimes, but always charm the audience.
FERD: Male, mid 60's (65-70). Very loosely based on Ferdinand Marcos. In an ideal world, played by a Filipino actor. But it’s more important for this reading for the actor to be the calm at the center of the storm. And to make an ex-dictator, plotting a coup, likable from the get-go. Oh and be flummoxed by the mysteries of making a Fluffernutter sandwich.
V: Female, early 30's (30-35): Our protagonist. Must be grounded and vulnerable going from under her Mother’s thumb to rebelling, to gaining her freedom at a cost. She may be the straight man but she has her own absurdities.
ALICE: Female, mid 30's (35-40): The villain. Ambition incarnate. Must be strong, at times brittle, and be able to let the audience peek at the humanity buried deep inside—even when she’s still the villain.
