This is a one-week developmental workshop for a new musical play by Y York (book/lyrics) and Amanda Jacobs (music/lyrics)

Loosely inspired by Eleanor H. Porter's novel Pollyanna, the story is set in early 20th century America. A young bi-racial orphan returns to her white family’s hometown after her parents die. Her enthusiastic, positive approach to life proves to be a challenge for her conservative aunt and for the small-town citizens around her. When it is almost too late, they realize that she has changed them.

Rehearsals will be weekday evenings June 17-21; perhaps a Saturday June 22 daytime rehearsal. The concert readings will be Sunday 6/23 in the afternoon and Monday 6/24 in the evening. Both readings will be at the Royal Room in Columbia City. It is funded by a 2019 City Artists Grant. All actors will receive AEA-approved stipends. This is an Actors Equity Member Project co-produced by Snowflake Avalanche. (https://www.facebook.com/snowflakeavalanchetheatre/)

Amanda Jacobs is a classical and music theatre composer; her musical AUSTEN’S PRIDE will be produced at the Fifth Avenue Theatre this coming October. http://amanda-jacobs.blogspot.com/

Y York is an award-winning playwright with over 40 produced and published plays for adults, families and young people. http://yyork.com

Several adult roles are already cast; we are seeking young people for the remaining parts.
Actors should email mlutwak@gmail.com for an audition slot; state if you prefer Saturday or Sunday. Actors should:
> email a digital headshot and resume when requesting an audition slot.
> prepare a verse and a chorus of an age-appropriate song that reveals some character drama. Bring your sheet music; we will have a pianist.
> be prepared to read from the script. We will send you sides from the script after we schedule your audition..

Please email mlutwak@gmail.com with any questions.

Other details:
Auditions and rehearsals will be at one of the TPS studios. While rehearsals are scheduled for the full week, most individual actors will not need to attend all rehearsals.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Several roles are cast; we are seeking actor-singers for:

Pollyanna, young teen. Ideally an actual youthful teenager but could be a young woman for this workshop. African American. Soprano with ability to belt. Her voice is clear, confident and pure. She is curious, optimistic, cheerful without being obsequious. She is in most of the scenes and has a lot of songs.

Nancy, teen. Ideally an actual teen but could be young woman. African American. Mezzo-soprano. Her voice is young with very little vibrato. She is old enough to work and help support her family. She is aware and smart and careful.

Jimmy Bean, young teen. Ideally an actual teenager but could be a young man. African American. An unchanged boy's soprano voice with a large range. Street-wise, so his voice can have an edge. If a changed voice is the only option, the actor should be a high tenor. Exhibits constant bravado that cracks only when he reveals his actual circumstances.

Audition/Interview Dates:
April 27 & 28 (afternoons)

Callbacks or second audition/interview?
