Every other year, The University of Washington School of Drama first-year MFA directors make their UW Drama Main Stage debuts in the Spring Quarter. Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of what these talented emerging artists will be creating on the UW stages over the next 3 years and in their future careers.

This year, the UW School of Drama will produce Body Awareness by Annie Baker directed by Andrew R. Coopman & Kristie Post Wallace. Both directors will be directing half of the show and have their own casts of 4 performers. Rehearsals begin April 30th and primarily be on week nights depending on actor availability on the UW campus. Tech Week begins May 29, 1 preview performance on June 4th, and then 5 public performances from June 5-9 in the Jones Playhouse.

Auditions will be held Thursday, March 21 from 4:00-8:00PM. Anyone interested in auditioning should prepare a 1-2 minute monologue and bring a resume and headshot. Please e-mail with any questions or your available times to secure an audition appointment. To request an alternative time if the 21st doesn’t work, please also e-mail, we are open to making more times available if needed. Andrew will respond with your audition slot to confirm. All roles available, all performers encouraged to audition.

About the play:
It’s Body Awareness Week at Shirley State, and as the student body examines the “gaze” of the art world, lesbian couple Joyce and Phyllis examine their relationship under the strain of Joyce’s 20- something son who may or may not be on the autism spectrum. When a male houseguest arrives, everyone’s assumptions are up-ended in this thought-provoking comedy.

Please note, some roles will require use of course language, partial nudity, and intimacy.
