Casting for the lead role in Cornish College of the Arts Senior Thesis, "Call of the Void", a one-act play about overcoming trauma, but only through accepting and finally breaking harmful patterns.
"Call of the Void" is centered around a young woman, Evie, who has been on a self-destructive path since facing trauma months before. She finds herself listening to l'appele du vide, or the Call of the Void - that voice in her head that tells her to do something harmful.
Trying to combat this, she starts seeing a therapist, Roland, who has a deep-seated trauma of his own that he hasn't yet faced.
As a former psychology student, Evie continuously psycho-analyzes Roland and the question of who is helping who, as well as the line between personal and professional boundaries, becomes blurred as they force each other to face their traumas, with risk of falling deeper into their own self-destructive tendencies.
This play is unique in that – unlike so many other projects that have dealt with difficult topics – it doesn't exploit or focus on the act of trauma itself, but instead on the aftermath and the attempt to heal oneself.
We are casting for the lead role of DR. ROLAND SCHOONRAAD.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
DR. ROLAND SCHOONRAAD:
(Though the character is older, open to actor of any age)
Therapist, seemingly even-keeled and controlled, but has well-spring of anger, guilt, and regret under the surface. An alcoholic, has essentially become his father while trying not to be; hanging on to the grief and guilt of losing his child years before; wants to help others, but is so deeply wounded he is unable to. Wears a thick and heavy mask - metaphorically speaking.
February 15, 4-6 pm; February 16, 12-3 pm; Email for audition slot (10 min): email@example.com
Callbacks or second audition/interview?
Prepare a monologue and sides (will be emailed with audition confirmation); possible cold-reading from script
The writer has been in contact with agents - has had a request from CAA for a past play - so there is a possiblility for an extended run/future project opportunities.
