Set in turn-of-the century NYC, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of "newsies." Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe". Newsies is perfect for our unique outdoor theater.

Many roles to be cast either male or female. Newsies requires strong singing/dancing. Most adult roles do not require dancing. Stipends are available for some roles.

Performance dates at the Kitsap Forest Theater are May 26-27, June 1-2, 8-9; 15-16. All shows are at 2:00 pm. There is a required preview performance on Saturday, May 25.

Other details:
Rehearsals start March 12. Weeknight rehearsals are held in Seattle at TPS, 4th floor, Seattle Center Armory. Weekend rehearsals are held at the Kitsap Forest Theater in Bremerton. Not all actors are called to every rehearsal.

Newsies auditions are running concurrently with our summer show auditions: Mamma Mia!. We encourage actors to audition for both shows if your schedule allows. Rehearsal schedules for both shows are on our web site.

We typically have actors from both sides of the sound and carpool opportunities are available.

New for 2019: We are holding dance workshops for the current season of dance-heavy musicals taught by the choreographers of each show. These workshops will help actors/dancers prepare for the upcoming KFT 2019 shows but are open to anyone wishing to enhance their dance skills.

Dance workshops taught by Guy Caridi will be held for Newsies on Saturday, January 12th, 1 - 3 pm & *3:30 - 5 pm and *Sunday, February 3rd, 1 - 3 pm at TPS Studio G for $10 per person (*added workshops). Further information on the audition tab of our website, including RSVP instructions.

The Mountaineers Players have been producing high quality shows at the unique Kitsap Forest Theater since 1923. Read about our theater, its history and see pictures at Please call with questions: 206-542-7815
