Character Breakdown / Project Needs
In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We are seeking all races and ethnicities unless otherwise listed. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide. In addition, we will list disability when specific to a character, but are otherwise seeking actors with disabilities as well as able-bodied actors for all roles.

Female Identifying Characters:
GRANDMA CAROL - Female mid 50’s to mid 60’s. Spent her life focused on being a mother to her three children, but currently going through a self discovery phase. She’s “hip”, and calm and contemplative in nature, but feisty when she needs to be. Loves Grandpa Dick, but over his shit.

EVE - 20’s to 30’s. Wife of Timothy. Feeling stuck in her stagnant life and role as a Puritan mother and homemaker. Though she lacks maternal instincts, she takes great pride in her role of watching the village children. She’s quick tempered, and at the end of her rope, but open and kind.

JANE - 20’s. Wife of Edmund and the newest woman to the village. She desperately wishes to fit in with the other women, but struggles to do so. She often lets her jealousy of the other women’s lives get in her way of befriending them. She and Edmund are the town gossips. She is excitable, warm to those she feels accepted by, willing to learn, but often selfish.

AGNES- 20’s to 30’s. Wife of Lawrence, the village reverend and lawmaker. She is a picture-perfect preacher’s wife -- as far as the village is concerned. She is secretly kinky; subservient in public, dominate in private. She is a natural caretaker and leader and has a soft spot for Jane. She is tight-laced, maternal, and knows herself well.

ELINORE - 20’s to 30’s. A rough-and-tumble chick. Elinore is a badass who loves to whittle and is skilled with an axe -- but God forbid anyone else in the village discover this. She is married to Simon. The two of them have an unspoken agreement to let the other live as they please. Elinore is brash, capable, but more of a follower than a leader.

Male Identifying Characters:
GRANDPA DICK - Male, late 50’s to late 60’s. Career focused and struggles to communicate with his wife, Grandma Carol. They have been married for 35 years, most of them happily. He is scheduled, ornery, and stubborn, but willing to listen when push comes to shove.

TIMOTHY (TWELVE STROKE TIM) - 20’s to 30’s. His role in the Puritan community is important, but not so much so that the importance should go to his head. Though it still does. He is concerned with his social standing; this often gets in the way of his relationship with Eve, his wife. Has a “Mister-Fix-It” attitude.

DOCTOR GILES - Mid 40’s to mid 50’s. Gangly. Holds the belief that because he is a doctor, he holds more authority than anyone else in his presence. Unless, they are also a doctor. He speaks with great conviction and makes bold claims, though he doesn’t always have means to back them. He’s competitive, proud, and curious.

JAIL KEEP - 20’s. None of the townspeople can recall who gave him the jail keep position, or why he still has it. He is skittish and sleepy, but overall means well. He is generally well-liked by the village.

EDMUND - 20’s. Has a burning secret love for Timothy, though he’s married to Jane. They’ve been married for a year, but have yet to consummate the marriage. He and Jane are newest to the village, and he’s recently become Timothy’s protege. He will do anything to gain Timothy’s favor. His love for Jane is true, but his lust for Timothy is truer. He is bubbly, determined, and a huge gossip, but his opinions are malleable.

LAWRENCE- 20’s to 40’s. The reverend of the town, and secretly kinky. Husband of Agnes. He’s the lawmaker of the village, and it’s very much reflected in his personality. Dominate in public, subservient in private. His world is run by logistics and God. He is stern, and formal, but caring.

SIMON - 20’s to 40’s. Secretly a huge animal lover. Loves his routine of singing to the village chickens and tending to the dogs -- and would be mortified if anyone were to discover this about him. He also secretly loves being a homemaker and tends to take on the tasks that Elinore, his wife, detests. He’s a feeler and a follower, but ready to speak up when needed.

GIVEN - Boy 13 - 16 years old. A young 13 year old boy, tall, gangly, pretty average pre-teen boy. Having his own coming-of-age moment. Sorely lacking in sex-ed, kind-hearted, a great listener, but wary at times.
