In the aftermath of a devastating war between clans, two swordswomen try to find their way forward in this strange new world of peace: one trying to escape her past, and the other driven by an inherited thirst for revenge. When your very existence is defined by your blade, how do you keep yourself sheathed? A tale of an unlikely friendship tested by the bonds of honor and the terrible price of forgiveness, Sheathed combines movement and storytelling in an exciting new way to explore the emotional depths of why we fight.
We STRONGLY encourage actors of all colors and ethnicities to audition for any role that interests you. The world of the play is set in a fictional universe, so please note that the character names do not reflect any traditional racial heritage.
This play will include both traditional fight choreography and theatrical dance movement. Any experience with stage combat (unarmed and edged weapons, including sword and spear), martial arts, dance training, puppetry, or musical instruments is welcomed.
Macha envisions a world where fearless female voices thrive.
We strive to bring complex, provocative, empowering, innovative, eclectic, diverse women’s stories to the stage through professional productions, new play reading series, and educational offerings.
Co-founded in 2001 by Kristina Sutherland Rowell and Desiree Prewitt, the company's original name, Macha Monkey Productions, was chosen in memoriam to a dear friend whose adopted wild spider monkey provided excellent storytelling fodder and inspired our founders.
In 2017, the company entered a time of transition and growth under Artistic Director Amy Poisson and Managing Director Kyna Grace Shilling, with Celtic Warrior Goddess Macha as the divine champion of Macha Theatre Works.
