Seeking actors, dancers, movers and artists of all backgrounds and disciplines!

Dacha Theatre is auditioning for the first three shows in our 2018-2019 season. While titles won’t be announced until after our Season Announcement Party on August 19th, please find general descriptions below:

SHOW 1 - A Devised Show directed by Nathan Whitehouse:
A site-specific devised, immersive piece set in a spooky open world which builds on past Dacha successes with interactive theater to explore new ways to engage and activate our audiences.

There will be several workshops in early September, and rehearsals will begin on September 16th. Tech will be in early October, and the show will run mid to late October.

SHOW 2 - A Musical directed by Kate Drummond:
A bright, hopeful script that approaches big ideas with warmth, levity, and joy.

Rehearsals for this show will begin on November 5th, and break for Thanksgiving and the holidays. Tech will be in mid January, and the show will run late January through early February.

SHOW 3 - Shakespeare Dice:
In this original theatrical feat, a small ensemble of actors memorize the entire script of a Shakespeare play. On the night of the show, the audience rolls dice to determine who plays who, and the show goes up.

There will be a once-a-week workshop period for this show, beginning in December. Rehearsals will begin February 11th. Please note that this show demands a significant time and energy commitment from its cast. Tech will be in early April, and the show will run mid-April to early May.

Please note that the order of these shows is subject to change.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
For our season, all roles are open to people of different races, gender identifications, ages, and experience levels unless otherwise noted. We are casting all roles. We are excited to work with a diverse ensemble that is ready to make the characters their own.

SHOW 1 - A Devised Show:
We are casting a large, diverse ensemble to devise the show.

Ideal ensemble members are comfortable developing larger-than-life characters, playing respectfully and creatively, and engaging directly with audience members.

SHOW 2 - A Musical:
Folks with dance and physical theater backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

Character Breakdown:
All roles are open to any gender, with the exception of “A,” which is open to female or non-binary actors. The written genders are included to give information on vocal ranges.

A: Female, younger. Curious, precocious, light-hearted. Vocal Part: contemporary musical theatre soprano

B: Male, younger. Charming, playful, ambitious. Vocal Part: pop/rock baritone

C: Male, older. Stubborn, straight-laced, action-oriented. Vocal Part: baritone

D: Female, older. Emotional, strong, hopeful. Vocal Part: mezzo soprano

E: Female, any age. Dark, driven, comedic. Vocal Part: alto

F & G: Any gender, any age. Scholarly, a matched set, opposites in many way. Vocal Parts: Tenor (if male), alto/mezzo (if female)

We are additionally casting 4-6 chorus members. Chorus members will be onstage for the majority of the show, and several will have solo songs. Strong movers encouraged to audition.

Please note that this show is physically demanding, and specifically requires chorus members to lift weight above their shoulders.

Those auditioning for SHOW 2: A Musical must additionally prepare a song. Please note there will not be an accompanist - please either bring your own backtrack recording, or be prepared to sing acapella. If you play guitar or ukulele, you are welcome to accompany yourself. Choose a 0:30-1:00 selection of a song that fits your voice - it does not need to be a musical theater piece. You will sign up for a time slot in the 2 hours following your group audition.

SHOW 3 - Shakespeare Dice:
We are casting a small, diverse ensemble. We are seeking actors with strong memorization skills and an eagerness to play and discover.

Please note that Shakespeare Dice demands significant commitment from its cast for the duration of the rehearsal process.

Those auditioning for SHOW 3: Shakespeare Dice must additionally prepare a monologue from a Shakespearean play. We ask that the monologue you prepare is from a character you would not normally be cast in -- either due to type, age, gender, etc. However, if you are white, please do not prepare a monologue from a character of color. You will sign up for a time slot in the 2 hours following your group audition.
