Now holding auditions for the "Shadow Cast" of our annual Big Screen showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! This will be our seventh year performing to a sold-out crowd of 800 at Bremerton's historic Admiral Theatre.
To fill out the 2018 roster, we are looking to cast the following roles: Dr. Frank-N-Further, Brad Majors, Columbia, and Eddie/Dr. Scott. Prior experience/familiarity with The Rocky Horror Picture Show is preferable, but by no means required.
Auditions will be held on Monday, August 6th from 6 PM - 8 PM at TPS. Callbacks will take place as needed at The Admiral Theatre (week of 8/13 - date/time TBD).
There will be one week of rehearsals leading up to the midnight show on Saturday, October 20th. All roles are paid, and actors commuting from Seattle will be provided with local accommodations on the night of the performance. The theatre is walking distance from the Seattle ferry.
About the Rocky Horror Shadow Cast tradition -
A shadow cast is a group that performs in front of a screen while a movie is playing; essentially pantomiming the film. There are no speaking/singing roles, but rather you will be telling the story through blocking, choreography, and lip syncing. This is a fast-paced, high energy performance, and we are looking for performers who can deliver larger-than-life characterizations while embracing and adapting to frequent interruptions from the audience (known as "call backs" for more info on this element: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rocky_Horror_Picture_Show_cult_following).
NOTE - The Rocky Horror Picture Show has STRONG SEXUAL CONTENT, LANGUAGE, and MINIMAL CLOTHING. (Corsets, garters, panties, fish-net stockings, etc.). Please refer to the film for specifics, as the cast will be replicating what is shown in the film.
Character Breakdown / Project Needs
OPEN ROLES -
Dr. Frank N' Furter:
Frank is a flamboyant, hedonistic transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania. He is the master of a castle which serves as his laboratory and the setting for the majority of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He is renowned for his decadence and self-indulgence, who lives only for pleasure and excitement; despite this, at best he is charismatic, charming, and seductive. At worst, he is spoiled and petty; easily jealous and can be roused into a homicidal rage if pushed too far.
Brad Majors (A Hero):
The clean-cut fiancé of Janet Weiss. Awkward and out of step, he finds himself in situations never before experienced. A straight-laced man from Denton, Brad Majors is attempting to visit his old mentor, Dr. Everett V. Scott, with his new fiancée, Janet Weiss, when he stumbles upon Frank-n-Furter’s castle.
Columbia (A Groupie): An especially lusty Transylvanian, Columbia first falls in love with Frank-n-Furter, then Ex Delivery Boy, Eddie. She is systematically rejected by Dr. Frank-n-Furter, to her utter frustration. This character has some tap dancing solos, but this can be mimed.
Eddie (Ex Delivery Boy) and Dr. Everett Scott (one actor will play both roles):
Eddie from birth is a rotten egg, perpetually finding trouble. He is implied to have had sexual relations with both Dr. Frank-n-Furter and Columbia and seems to have no sense of control or sanity. He rushes to the castle to cause havoc, but leaves a note to his uncle revealing knowledge of the Transylvanians’ dastardly plans. Dr. Frank-n-Furter murders him out of anger.
Dr. Everett V. Scott (A Rival Scientist), mentor of Brad and Janet and uncle of Eddie, wanders into the castle in search of his nephew and serves as the scientific voice of reason.
Monday, August 6th 6 PM - 8 PM
Callbacks or second audition/interview?
TBD as needed (week of 8/13)
Please prepare a 2 minute audition of your chosen discipline (see below).
Lip Syncing is encouraged, but if you'd prefer to show us something else (drag, burlesque, singing, dancing, clowning, etc...), we'd love to see it. Song choice is entirely up to you, and if you'd like to audition for a specific character, feel free to perform something from the movie!
Unfortunately, there won't be an accompanist present, but we'll have a speaker set up for your phone and we will have someone in the room delegated to start/stop your music. If you have any questions or clarifications on the audition, please let us know. We want you to feel comfortable and have fun!
Callbacks will take place at The Admiral Theatre the following week of 8/13 (date/time TBD).
If you are interested in this project but are unable to attend the audition, please send us your headshot/resume to the e-mail address provided.
All roles are paid.
