WAKE YOU UP
Music & Lyrics by Taylor Pearlstein
Book by Shannon Molly Flynn
SYNOPSIS: When Eli makes his move from his small, conservative town to the big city to join his estranged, worldly, childhood friend, Jordan, he finds himself particularly attached to his roommate, Addy. With the three of them at the cross roads of the world, they each begin their journey of responsibility: to ones they love, to each other, and most importantly, to themselves. This new musical, from break-out writers Pearlstein & Flynn, deals with the illnesses that bind and the self-awareness it takes to persist.
This is a STAGED READING/DEVELOPMENTAL WORKSHOP that will be part of SCRATCH, Seattle Workshop Series produced by Andrew Garrett, featuring NYC writer's Taylor Pearlstein and Shannon Molly Flynn.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
ELI- Male or Male-Identifying-20s-Any Ethnicity
Raised in a small, conservative town in a very religious family, Eli’s move to New York City has him facing more than just a change of address. Being reunited with his openly gay childhood friend has him questioning parts of himself he’s been able to safely tuck away. His new relationship with Jordan’s roommate Addy, stirs confusion and brings enlightenment when they are forced to deal with Jordon’s accident. When faced with mortality, he must chose how much longer he can hide.
JORDON- Male or Male-Identifying- 20s- Non-White
Jordon was raised in the same small town as Eli. He is the warmth in every room and the energy seems to naturally turn to him. Not in an egocentric, it just is. Eli and Jordon would best friends until his parents disowned when he came out to them. You would never know such a grounded human had such an isolating past. He is big into the night club scene and experimental hallucinogenics.
MALE PLAYER- Male or Male-Identifying-20s- Any Ethnicity
Plays multiple characters, including a reminiscent ex-boyfriend, an enthusiastic rave organizer, and Eli’s judgmental brother. Versatility and range is key.
FEMALE PLAYER- Female or Female-Identifying- Late 20s/Early 30s- Any Ethnicity
Plays multiple characters, including Jordon’s uneasy sister, Jordon’s flighty best friend, and Eli’s concerned mother. Versatility and range is key.
