Short film. Unpaid or possibly deferred. 8 min approx. run time. Shooting locally this summer. Dark comedy in the vein of Fargo. Looking to cast roles for 2 women and 2 men. Send an email with your reel and/or past performances and which role you’re interested in to firstname.lastname@example.org
Based on a true story (so I’m told). Laurie meets a strange man next to her neighbor's house. The man says that he's the neighbor's brother and that the neighbor killed himself the night before. Their mother is on the way to collect his cat. Laurie, a kind-hearted, upbeat mid-westerner offers to clean up the suicide mess so that the man's mother doesn't have to bear that sight. On her way out after cleaning, the strange man is gone and a cop knocks at the door. He's there to check up on the neighbor since he didn't go to work. His mother was worried about him and called the cops. And the man has no siblings...dun, dun, dun. Laurie is cleared of any wrongdoing but she unwillfully destroyed all of the evidence from the murder.
Character Breakdown / Project Needs
LAURIE: female 40-55. Laurie is a young widow who doesn’t know how to fill her days. Her only daughter is at college. She has a "midwestern personality”—bright, optimistic, trusting, but can be a bit of an airhead. Shoot 1 day or depending on locations 2 half days plus photoshoot prior to filming.
MAN: (already cast) 35-45. A seedy mysterious man with long greasy hair. He’s very quiet and mistrustful. Shoot 1 short day.
OFFICER: male 30-45. Non-caucasian preferred. Someone with an interesting look. A police officer comes to a house to investigate a call. He’s seen a lot on the job so he has a calm demeanor. Shoot 1 short day.
MACKENZIE: female 18-21. Laurie’s daughter. Mackenzie is in college. Her mom calls in the am to chat but Mackenzie is sleeping off a hangover. Depending on shoot location options, this might be all VO and we don’t even see Mackenzie. Shoot for 1 hour plus photoshoot prior to filming.
HUSBAND: male 45-55. Someone with a dad-look. Not a speaking role. He appears in a family photo on the mantle. Then we see a more recent family photo where he is not there telling the audience he is deceased. Only needed for a family portrait photoshoot.
