HEARTS: Health & Arts, in collaboration with Admiral UCC and Providence Mt. Saint Vincent, will present two Staged Readings of "Nightingale: A Musical Regarding the Life and Passion of Miss Florence Nightingale" by Pamela Gerke, Sundays, September 23 & 30, 3-5pm, in West Seattle. There will be 3 required rehearsals in West Seattle: Sundays, 2-4:30pm, August 26, Sept. 9 & Sept. 16.

"Nightingale" brings Florence Nightingale’s story to life in a musical play that makes her image relevant for modern audiences. In celebration of Nightingale's 200th Birthday, HEARTS will take this musical to nursing schools, conferences and organizations, healthcare institutions, and other venues in the Puget Sound area in 2019 & 2020. Actors for those performances will be paid (non-Equity).


Character Breakdown / Project Needs
All roles are non-traditional casting; British accents not required. No movement is required for
these 2 Staged Readings.

Florence Nightingale – ages 19-36, Mezzo Soprano
Fanny Nightingale – Florence’s mother, ages 50’s, Alto
Parthenope Nightingale – Florence’s sister, ages 20-31, Soprano
Sigma Bracebridge – Florence’s friend, ages 40’s-50’s, Soprano or Alto
Modern Day Nurse – any adult age, Alto
Mother McGrigor – ages 40’s-50’s, Soprano
Sister Noreen - Catholic nun War Nurse, ages 20’s-40’s, Soprano
Mrs. Rebecca Lawfield - working class War Nurse, ages 20’s-40’s, Soprano
Mrs. Eliza Roberts - working class War Nurse, ages 20’s-40’s, Alto
Sister Elizabeth Wheeler – Anglican nun War Nurse, ages 20’s-40’s, Alto
Some minor, non-singing roles, adult ages

William Edward Shore Nightingale (WEN) – Florence’s father, ages 40’s-50’s, Tenor or Baritone
Richard Monckton Milnes – Florence’s suitor, ages 40’s, Tenor

William Howard Russell – newspaper correspondent, ages 30’s, Tenor

Monetary compensation:
For these Staged Readings there is no compensation for actors except comp. tickets; however, all actors will be considered for paid roles for our fully staged Nightingale performances in 2019-2020 (various dates & locations, TBA).
