This is the mainland premiere of Y York's FRAMED, directed by Mark Lutwak to be produced at 18th & Union.
Jake is sick of being a mechanic; he wants in where the real action is. His wife May wants to learn to paint so she can have something to look at before the memory of her mother fades away. Joanie wants to be a famous artist, a good artist, not just a wife, any sort of artist. Nick wants his wife to be happy and his numbers business to take care of itself. Art, crime, sex, and two husbands who really love their wives collide in this comic tragedy about the triumph of ambition over soul.
Playwright Y York recently returned to Seattle after 15 years elsewhere in the world. Her plays have been widely produced and published. In the past year, Seattle audiences saw SYCORAX (Snowflake Avalanche at 18th & Union) and THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF NOW (Thalia’s Umbrella at 12th Avenue Arts). For more information visit yyork.com.
As of May 1, due to attrition, we now have a couple of open slots on both Saturday May 5 and Tuesday May 8. Please get in touch if you are interested.
Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Casting Jake and May. They are both very young adults (late teens to mid-20s). They could be any ethnicity. They are very much in love. They have not yet learned how to communicate with one another. They pretty darn innocent but not stupid. They just don’t know very much about the world. Jake is a natural mechanic but wants more because he thinks that’s what May wants (maybe he should ask her). May is a natural artist with exceptional talent with very practical desires. This is an adult play with some discussion of sexual issues, but no nudity.
Email for an audition slot: Saturday May 5, 1-6PM & Tuesday May 8, 6-10PM
