Beebi, her brother Medjo, and their grandma, Grandma, run a fish shop in a small village. One day, a cute colonial soldier named Archie shows up, and his seemingly-innocuous presence turns out to be a harbinger of an upheaval that will ultimately tear Beebi’s family apart and nearly destroy of an entire people. The Great Inconvenience is a tragicomic love story based on the true-but-mostly-forgotten history of one of the first mass deportations in modern times.

Annex Theatre is actively and intentionally committed to diverse and inclusive casting and volunteer hiring for all productions. Inclusive casting is understood as being open to casting roles with artists in roles where ethnicity, gender, age, or ability is not prescribed and who may not reflect the original description of a role in terms of age, ability, ethno-cultural identity, gender, or sexual identity.

Other details:
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with an industry night on Monday August 6th. Rehearsals will be 6-10 Monday-Thursday and 11-6 on Sundays. There may be two additional Saturday rehearsals.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
This play takes place in a future. In it, the descendents of a mass deportation attempt to tell the story of the expulsion of their ancestors from their home. The diaspora described in this play includes people of numerous ethnic and racial backgrounds. Actors of color are strongly encouraged to audition for all roles.

There is no role in this play that must be played by a cisgender actor, and we invite actors of all gender identities to audition for any role they feel suits them.

We are looking for actors who are excited about being in a play that isn’t done yet, and helping to shape the roles as they are being written.
