The Who’s TOMMY is a legendary rock opera about a tragically abused child who grows to find wild success as a pinball phenomenon, and – by, at turns, dismantling, attacking, and forgiving the people and systems that abused and injured them – eventually finds a home and community.
This will be an electric new interpretation of the show, amplifying the journey of the title character while casting a light on the people and forces that surround them.
Rehearsals will begin on July 15th, taking place on Sunday thru Thursday from 7pm to 10pm.
The Who's TOMMY will perform at 12th Avenue Arts on Capitol Hill, opening on August 16th and running until September 1st.
Director: Philip Lacey
Music Director: Brandon Peck
Choreographer: Daniel Cruz
Character Breakdown / Project Needs
The role of Young Tommy is open for audition to any and all children between the ages of 9 and 14 whose voices have not changed due to adolescence. It is highly likely that more than one Young Tommy will be cast, and we are delighted to consider all genders and ethnicities for these roles.
As a note to parents or guardians: TOMMY is a very intense show, thematically, dealing with and representing physical and sexual abuse towards the character of Young Tommy. While the creative team will take every possible precaution to intentionally create a safe space and experience for these young actors, some of this content will no doubt raise questions or thoughts about circumstances that they have not witnessed before. Only you can decide whether or not your child is at a place in their development where they are ready for this.
To reiterate, we will not even have “acted” violence or assault anywhere near these young actors. Our creative team has worked extensively with younger populations in schools, dance studios, at Village Kidstage, etc and will make sure that this production is an emotionally safe space for the kids. But it will be impossible to shield them from witnessing at least some of the volatile content.
Please consider this carefully before allowing any young actors to audition.
Saturday, March 10th: 10am - 11am @ TPS
