A collaboration between UW Tacoma, Broadway Center, and Toy Boat Theatre;
seeking a diverse ensemble of 7 UWT student and community actors;
open to ALL interested area actors, ages 17-adult

In Clybourne Park, Bruce Norris imagines what might have happened immediately after, and 50 years after Lorraine Hansberry's ground-breaking play, A Raisin in the Sun, in a devastating, darkly funny clash of racism and real-estate.

Other details:
We will begin "soft" (2-3 per week maximum) rehearsals the second week of March, while UWT students complete their term, finals, and spring break.
Our full rehearsal schedule, TBA according to cast availability, will begin the week of March 26 (first week of spring term at UWT), and run at UWT until April 29, when we load in, tech., dress and run at BCPA, Studio 3.

 

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Actors all play 2-3 characters; pairings TBD. White/mixed-race characters may include some ethnicity beyond caucasian; black characters must be persons of color.
Actor playing Betsy may be hearing or partial hearing; actor must play a fully hearing second act character.

Act 1, 1959:
Russ, white/mixed race, 40's;
Bev (married to Russ), white/mixed race 40's;
Francine, (Bev's housekeeper) black 30's;
Albert (married to Francine), black, 30's;
Jim (pastor, white/mr, late 20's);
Karl (homeowner assoc. rep), white/mr, 30's;
Betsy (married to Karl), late 20's, white/mr; deaf, pregnant.

Act 2, 2009:
Tom (homeowner's assoc. rep), white/mr, 20's-30's;
Lindsey (home buyer) white/mr, 20's-30's, pregnant;
Kathy (Betsy and Karl's daughter) white/mr, 40's;
Steve (married to Lindsey) white/mr, 30's;
Lena (niece of former home-owner) black, 30's;
Kevin (married to Lena), black 30's;
Dan (contractor, white/mr) 30's;
Kenneth (Russ and Bev's son) white/mr, 20's.

Audition/Interview Dates:
February 27 and 28, 6:30pm

Callbacks or second audition/interview?
March 2, 6:30pm

Audition Requirements:
Cold readings from the script; sides provided. Will read in pairs/groups, to be determined by the director. Plan to arrive at 6:30 and stay up to 2 hours.

Monetary compensation:
