The hilarious encounters between the delightfully eccentric Sycamore household and the traditional Kirby Family has delighted audiences for generations! Receiving both a Pulitzer prize and an Academy Award, this timeless American comedy is one of the most popular and successful plays of modern times!

Experienced actors of all ethnicities over the age of 25 are especially encouraged to audition.


Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Martin “Grandpa” Vanderhof - An eccentric happy old man who has never paid his income tax because he doesn't believe in it. (Age Range 60+)

Alice Sycamore - The only "normal" family member, she is rather embarrassed by the eccentricities of her family, yet she still loves them. Fiancé of Tony Kirby. (Age Range 18-30)

Tony Kirby - Vice President of Kirby and Co. He sees how, even though the Sycamores appear odd, they are really the perfect family because they love and care about each other. Fiancée of Alice. (Age Range 18-30)

Penelope “Penny” Sycamore – She writes plays and paints as hobbies because it makes her happy, but is terrible at both. Loving mother of Essie and Alice and wife of Paul. (Age Range 40+)

Essie Carmichael - Dreams of being a ballerina, but is a terrible dancer. Sister of Alice, wife of Ed. (Age Range 20-35)

Boris Kolenkhov - Essie's Russian ballet instructor. He is concerned with world politics and is strongly opinionated. (Age Range 25+)

Paul Sycamore - Father of Essie and Alice and husband to Penny, he manufactures fireworks in his basement and plays with erector sets. (Age Range 40+)

Ed Carmichael - Husband of Essie, an amateur printer who prints anything that sounds good to him. He also plays the xylophone. (Age Range 20-35)

Mr. De Pinna – The iceman who came by five years ago and never left. He is the hilarious assistant to Mr. Sycamore. (Age Range 25+)

Anthony W. Kirby - Father of Tony, President of Kirby and Co. He is a very wealthy and proper man whose hobby is raising expensive orchids. (Age Range 40+)

Miriam Kirby - Mother of Tony, extremely prim and proper and horrified by the Sycamore's. (Age Range 40+)

Rheba - Maid and cook to the Sycamore family, dating Donald. (Age 20+)

Donald - Boyfriend of Rheba, volunteer handyman for Sycamore's. (Age Range 20+)

The Grand Duchess Olga Katrina – A former Grand Duchess of Russia, forced to flee to America. She now works as a waitress. (Age Range 40+)

Gay Wellington – Alcoholic actress that meets Mrs. Sycamore on a bus (Age Range 25+)

Wilbur C. Henderson - IRS employee, he comes to collect tax money owed by Grandpa. (Age Range 25+)

Government Man 1, 2 and 3 - Three men that investigate Ed for communism (Age Range 18+)

Audition/Interview Dates:
February 12 from 6-9pm by appointment only

Callbacks or second audition/interview?
Invitational Callbacks February 15

Audition Requirements:
Bring a current headshot and resume to leave with the panel. Prepare a one minute monologue to perform for the panel.

Monetary compensation:
All cast and crew are volunteers.
