The Who’s TOMMY is a legendary rock opera about a tragically abused child who grows to find wild success as a pinball phenomenon, and – by, at turns, dismantling, attacking, and forgiving the people and systems that abused and injured them – eventually finds a home and community.

This will be an electric new interpretation of the show, amplifying the journey of the title character while casting a light on the people and forces that surround them. A tight ensemble cast will all take featured roles in this highly theatrical, movement intensive show – propelled by a more aggressive, contemporary rock sound.

Rehearsals will begin on July 15th, taking place on Sunday thru Thursday from 7pm to 10pm.

Other details:
Director - Phil Lacey
Music director - Brandon Peck

These auditions will also serve as the initial audition for G&S’s other summer production, Gilbert & Sullivan’s Patience, which will be directed by Ruben van Kempen. For broadest consideration, we would recommend tailoring one audition piece to TOMMY and one to Patience.

Please see the separate TPS audition listing for Patience for more information.

Audition Requirements:
Please prepare two short contrasting vocal selections:

The first should be a selection in the style of this show – from a comparable music theatre piece or something from the pop/rock canon.

The second can be either a contrasting contemporary piece, or a more classical piece – from a G&S show, operetta, opera, or Golden Age musical theater.

Please select pieces that showcase both your voice as well as your acting ability. Pieces should be anywhere from 16 – 32 bars in length, not to go longer than a minute each.

Please bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.

Monetary compensation:
All roles will receive a $400 stipend.
