Copious Love Productions is a Seattle theatre company focused on cultivating original works. We strive to develop fun interactive experiences for a more vibrant community of art, artists and audiences. Our mainstage production of 2018 is “JOURNEY WEST! The Legend of Lewis & Clark” by Andrew Lee Creech.
In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson enlisted Meriwether Lewis and William Clark's Corps of Discovery to explore the uncharted West and find an all-water route across North America from sea to shining sea. This is the narrative we "know." History gets lambasted, as actor, musician and playwright, Andrew Lee Creech invites you into truly untrodden territory with his world-premiere musical, “JOURNEY WEST! The Legend of Lewis & Clark”. Join in an epic quest that re-blazes the historic trail to the Pacific through song, dance, and Sasquatch in this whimsical and irreverent send-up of one of America's most beloved origin stories.
Rehearsals will generally be 6:30-9:30pm on Monday - Thursday starting April 2, 2018. “JOURNEY WEST! The Legend of Lewis & Clark” is set to premiere on June 1, 2018 for a four week run at the Theatre Off Jackson (409 7th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104). Written by Andrew Lee Creech, Music by Evan Barrett.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Copious Love STRONGLY encourages all ethnicities, actors of color, ages and gender identities to audition for any role that interests you!
MERIWETHER - Uptight and pompous Captain of the Corps of Discovery (think Frasier Crane in charge of an expedition). Privilege and entitlement is his name. And for it to be remembered (and correctly spelled) in history books, is all he could ever ask. If he only wasn’t so blind to all the damage he causes.
WILLIAM - Lieutenant of the Corps of Discovery. Practical, but slightly unhinged. Not the mapmaker or outdoorsperson he once was, he uses alcohol to treat his waning sense of self-worth. Hopes this expedition will get him “back to the top.”
RUBY - Charismatic adventure-seeker. Fleeing from an arranged marriage, she searches for a life worth living (on her terms) and ownership of herself and her destiny. A natural navigator.
JOSEPHINE - Ruby’s older sister. A natural poet and leader, she oozes a saccharine-sweetness that only comes with years of playing dress-up housewife. She’s on the expedition in search of a fresh start and a voice of her own.
YORK - A man on the expedition not by choice, and his sarcasm tells you he’s aware. With his participation in the expedition, he hopes to win his freedom in order to track down his long lost wife, Henrietta.
SACAGAWEA - A young Shoshone interpreter. Not shy about her feelings, she speaks her mind often, but is hardly ever truly heard. She is desperate to make her way home with her newborn child, Jean-Baptiste.
CHARBONNEAU - A fur trapper. A gross, cowardly man. He’s one to start a fight with a grizzly bear, as long as the grizzly bear’s chained up. More talk, less walk.
JEFFERSON - Donald Trump in a powdered wig.
DANIEL BOONE - A MAN’S man. The American Folk Legend...Gaston meets Elvis.
CHIEF CAMEAHWAIT - Leader of the Shoshone people. Sacagawea’s brother.
BUFFALO - Literally...a buffalo...who maybe sings and dances...
SAS’KA’WA’CHE - Bigfoot.
THE THREE JOHNS - Three men tagging along on the expedition.
