Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Nora Baker, F, 40's, open ethnicity, actresses of color are encouraged to submit for this role.
Bessie Shaw, F, 20's, caucasian
Nora Baker: Actors of color are encouraged to submit for this role. 40's Nora is a cool new-york painter who is struggling to succeed. She values art a great deal, and is at her wit's end with trying to make ends meet. While her drive and spirit won't let her cave in, nonetheless she is in deep despair. Actors auditioning for this role will want to focus on her perceptive sensitivity, as Nora is someone who solves the figurative puzzles before her with mindfulness. Amidst her artists' crisis Nora is miraculously transported back in time to 1900 France, where she encounters the then obscure Paul Cezanne who is in deep despair with his own crisis of self-worth. Cezanne is both her gateway back home, and to her own potential. Nora is the central role in 'Visiting Cezanne'
Bessie Shaw: 20's, a Mormon from Utah in 1900. Bessie has had a very hard life. She visits France for research on a book about contemporary French artists. She very much needs to prove herself, as she has traveled far and suffered much at home. She has a meaningful spirituality to her, which allows her to befriend Nora who is in the strangest of all possible circumstances. Bessie is extremely smart and hopeful, while her wounds run deep.
