Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) in Langley announces continued auditions for the role of Major Ramsey (Moriarty) in the February 2018 production of Sherlock Holmes and The American Problem by R. Hamilton Wright, directed by Kylie McKenzie Soder, and inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The American Wild West and Victorian England collide in this original adventure tale. The year is 1887, the occasion is Queen Victoria’s Jubilee, and the coincidences are suspiciously piling up. This Seattle Rep 2015 hit arrives just in time for the Langley Mystery Weekend.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Casting for the role of Major Ramsey (Moriarty)

From the Director:
To me, Moriarty is an interesting villain. He’s one of the few villains in literature who is almost exactly like the hero: charismatic, brilliant, moody, egotistical, and creative. He is Sherlock’s equal in every way. He relishes in the hunt, and delves in the detail. I’m looking for a man, 30 to 50 years in age, who can capture the immense inner life of Moriarty. He should seem like a hot kettle: stone still on the outside while boiling inside. He should seem like he’s about to burst, while being totally in control of everything around him. He is a force to be reckoned with, while also being unassuming. Imagine that Carl Sagan’s alter ego was Mark Hamill’s Joker. That’s the Moriarty I’m looking for.

Audition/Interview Dates:
Prior to November 10

Audition Requirements:
If interested please send headshot and resume to WICA Production Director Deana Duncan at deana.duncan@wicaonline.org. If asked to audition you will be sent the side, asked to tape and send to the director by November 10.

Monetary compensation:
WICA is a local community theatre, and while we do not offer actor stipends we can work with artists traveling from the Puget Sound metro area to help cover some ferry and gas expenses as well as possible help with artist housing during tech week and performance weekends.
