Get a superhero, put him in the 90s, and shoot him in front of his teenage daughter. Throw in a badass grandma, some bloodthirsty reporters, and an office romance--that's Supernova.
Some props, costumes, lighting, etc. will be used although it is *technically* a staged reading. Supernova will be performed October 21st at 4:30pm at The Pocket Theater in Greenwood.
Character Breakdown / Project Needs
NOVA (Lead)- 12-18. Her father is her hero. Introverted and kind hearted, darkens as the play progresses.
JULIA (Lead)- 30-50. Lawyer, Nova’s mom. Timely and efficient.
GRANDMA (Lead/Supporting)- Nova’s grandmother who is visiting the Goodmann family. Loveable and untraditional.
WILLIAM (Supporting)- AKA the Comet, 30-50, is seen as a superhero-by most. Nova’s Dad.
DAWN* (Supporting)- Any age, William’s nemesis. Stereotypical comic book villain.
ASHLEY THICOVICK* (Supporting)- A well known reporter who covers the story of the Dawn and the Comet.
PANDORA SIEGEL* (Supporting) The producer of GO news. Poised, frank but well-meaning. Fancies Thickovick.
MRS TRYWELL* (Supporting)- Nova’s science teacher, 30-50.
RILEY* (Featured)- Classmate and friend of Nova’s. May double as reporter.
DET. GALE* (Featured)- Any age, detective. Gives Nova the news. May double.
STUDENTS (1, 2 and 3)- Nova’s classmates. A lot of ad libbing. May double as reporters.
CREW - ASHLEY’s camera crew, who follow him around everywhere.
REPORTERS (1, 2 and 3)- Other reporters, eager to get a story--maybe too eager. May double as students.
INTERN - Intern at GO news. May double.
INTERCOM VOICE - Makes (pre-recorded) announcement. May double.
*These characters have genders for ease of writing, but it depends on actor chemistry and fit. In fact, all characters are open to changes in age and gender for the right actor. Audition for the character that sounds like the most fun, and we’ll take it from there.
We may need someone savvy with lights and sound to help during tech week and the performance.
August 8th (email for other options)
