Bainbridge Performing Arts is pleased to announce AUDITIONS for CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, September 12 and 14 at BPA. Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming's children's book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG is one family-friendly blockbuster that is “Truly Scrumptious.”


Other details:
Run dates are December 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17, with a Pay-What-You-Can Preview November 30.

Rehearsals are October 7 through November 27, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays @ 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. plus Saturdays @ 11:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.


Character Breakdown / Project Needs

Caractacus Pott: (30’s –50’s) An eccentric, brilliant English inventor and loving father & son. Vocal range: A3-G5

Truly Scrumptious: (20’s-40’s) Daughter of a famous candy maker, strong & independent. Vocal range: A3-E5

Jeremy Potts: (10-13) Caractacus’s son. Vocal range: C4-E5

Jemima: (10-13) Caractacus’s daughter. Vocal range: C4-E5

Grandpa Potts: (50’s +) Caractacus’s father, former war hero. Vocal range: C4-E5

Baron Bomburst: Tyrannical ruler of Vulgaria and a lover of toys. Vocal range: E4-E5

Baroness Bomburst: Head of the Vulgarian Parliament and a hater of children. Vocal range: G3-G5

The Childcatcher: Male or Female, makes sure that Vulgaria is child-free.

The Toymaker: Male or Female, a toy-making genius who only works for the Baron. Vocal range: C4-E5

Boris: Male or Female, the leader of the two-person Vulgarian gang. Vocal range: C4-G5

Goran: Male or Female, the other half of the gang. Vocal range: D4-G5

Ensemble Speaking / Singing Roles:
Adult Ensemble: (13 and up). Many character parts & musical numbers include Toots Sweet, Me Ol’ Bamboo, Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang, Vugarian Anthem and Bombie Samba. Actors will play characters in the English Crowd at the Grand Prix, Employees of The Candy Factor, English Villagers, citizens and soldiers of Vulgaria. Ensemble actors may also be offered one of the following speaking roles:

Lord Scrumptious: (40-60+) Owner of the Scrumptious Sweet Factory.

The Inventors

Coggins: Garage Owner

Junkman: Customer for the old race car

Miss Phillips: Candy factory receptionist

Violet: Fun Fare Tourist

Sid: Violet’s husband

Turkey Farmer: Buyer of Pott’s barber machine

Captain: Vulgarian ship captain

Captain: Leader of Vulgarian Guards

Soldiers: 4 comic members of the elite Vulgarian Guard

Morris Men

Youth Ensemble: (9-12) Children in hiding;
Stephen: Older, leader
Greta: Older, leader
Susan: Bully
Marta: Young and frightened
Toby: Weak and a victim
Boy: Solo. Strong and enthusiastic
Girl: Solo. Strong and enthusiastic.
Youth Ensemble may also play characters I the English Crowd at the Grand Prix, Employees of The Candy Factory, English Villagers and Morris Men

All roles are open to audition.

Audition/Interview Dates:
Tuesday, September 12 @ 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. & Thursday, September 14 @ 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Audition Requirements:
Those auditioning are requested to prepare a one to one and a half-minute monologue and 32 bars of a Classic Broadway song. An accompanist will be provided but those auditioning must bring sheet music – clearly marked and in a three-ring binder. Please - no outside accompanists or acapella singing.
