Book-It Repertory Theatre’s Arts and Education Program will be holding General Auditions for their 2017-2018 Touring Season on July. 26th and 27th.
Book-It’s Arts and Education Program presents three original adaptations of books for children, young adults and adults that tour schools, libraries and community venues all across the state of Washington. In addition to performing in the touring productions, actors will be trained to work as teaching artists to provide workshops that further foster students’ engagement and understanding of each shows themes. Each show is expected to have between 40-60 touring performances and 20-30 workshops; the majority are scheduled during daytime school hours (8am-4pm).
2017/18 Touring Season
FALL: Ada’s Violin: The Story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay by Susan Hood (Bilingual in English and Spanish)
Directed by Annie DiMartino
An extraordinary true tale of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay, an orchestra made up of children playing instruments built from recycled trash. Ada Ríos dreams of playing the violin, but only until a music teacher named Fabio Chávez arrives does she fulfill her dreams.

WINTER: WHOOSH!: Lonnie Johnson’s Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions by Chris Barton
Directed by Shermona Mitchell
Lonnie loves rockets, robots and inventing! With persistence and a passion for problem-solving Lonnie uses his creative mind to become an engineer and work with NASA. Although he invented many things, the Super Soaker made the biggest splash in popular culture.

SPRING: Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lai
Directed by Sara Porkalob
A novel in verse of one girl’s year of change, dreams, grief and healing, this coming-of-age novel follows Hà as she flees from Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon and immigrates to Alabama.
Rehearsals: Late January - February
Preview: February 27th
Touring: March 1st - June 30th
Auditions will be held for all three touring shows at Theatre Puget Sound on the following dates:
July 26th from 11am-2pm
July 27th from 1pm-4pm

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Each show will have a cast of three actors playing a myriad of roles. Actors of all backgrounds and experiences are welcomed to audition.
Ada’s Violin (English & Spanish) will have bilingual elements. Experience with these languages is desired but not necessary for all roles.
Both Ada’s Violin and Inside Out & Back Again both will have musical elements. Actors who sing and/or play instruments are desired.
July 26th from 11am-2pm & July 27th from 1pm-4pm
Please prepare a 1-2 minute passage that includes both narration and dialogue from a young adult or classic novel. Performed poetry is also acceptable for this audition.
Artists are paid hourly for rehearsals and training, and $75 for each touring performance. Per Diem and accommodations provided when applicable during travel.
