Auditioning all roles for Fool for Love by Sam Shepard, the ACT Kenan Directing Fellowship Showcase, presented in the ACTLab. Showcase rehearses mid-June through the end of July; runs the last weekend of July and first weekend of August. Directed by Alex Bodine, ACT’s Kenan Directing Fellow.

 

Other details:
This showcase production of Fool for Love will take place in the ACTLab Lalie black box space. As such it will be an intimate production, igniting Shepard’s poetic and dynamic language with a great use of physical life. Actor’s shall be compensated with a stipend.

 

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
All roles in Fool for Love are being cast. Differently abled actors, and actors of all races, ethnicities and gender identities are encouraged to audition. Actors should be confident and comfortable with physical storytelling, advanced staged violence, and be comfortable with learning combat and movement choreography.

May: 30’s. A survivor; has become strong from being left to face to world alone too often. Wily, sly and full of fire to mask a fragile hope underneath.

Eddie: 30’s. Charismatic, silver-tongued. An American Western cowboy, self-constructed from ideal designs of the western vagabond. Trying hard to fill shoes. Rope tricks are helpful.

Martin: 30’s. A groundskeeper. Big, strong, warm, earthy, steady. Martin is always trying to make things right.

Old Man: 50 to 70. Wasted away to dreams, alcohol, and reminiscing on his version of the past.

Audition/Interview Dates:
Saturday April 22nd

Audition Requirements:
Auditioners should prepare a piece of Shepard's auxiliary work (short stories, poems, monologues) or a Kerouac/outlaw country equivalent piece that should not exceed one minute. Auditioners will then work with brief sides from the script. Sides will be provided beforehand
