This is a workshop performance. Actors will have scripts in hand.

About the play:

Lucinda Celeste is a former freedom fighter now living in quiet obscurity.  When her long-estranged son appears with the news that her property is going to be confiscated by the repressive government, Lucinda must decide whether to capitulate or once again take her place as leader of a people’s revolution.

REHEARSALS:  Mondays, 8:30pm - 10:30pm, from 3/6 to 4/3 and Saturdays, 10 am-noon from 03/11 to 04/08.

Tech/Dress: TBD (will be on one of the days already scheduled for rehearsal)

WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE: Monday 4/10 at 7pm. Actor call is at 4 pm.

POSSUM will be Parley's 31st world premiere workshop by local Seattle playwrights since 2014. In 2017, Parley has produced VENUS by Susan McNally and will soon stage MAGPIE AND MARITA by Hannah Merrill.

Other details:
Our process is unconventional; it is designed with the needs of new work in mind.  We rehearse our plays twice a week for five consecutive weeks in order to allow the playwright ample time to observe the process, absorb the actors' discoveries and challenges, and use that information to inform and inspire an extensive revision process.
In the sixth week, we perform and celebrate.

Parley is a weekly playwrights' group as well as a producing entity.  The term "parley" derives from the French verb "parler": to speak.  Historically, a parley was a meeting between adversaries in order to negotiate an end to battle.  To signal a willingness to talk peaceably, armies would run up a white flag.  Writing is a solitary act.  It's easy for playwrights who feel isolated to become defensive.  Our group seeks to cure that condition.  By committing to a process of reading, discussing, and producing one another's work, we surrender the lone struggle and move creatively forward together.

Make plays, not war.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
Please note:

OTTO CELESTE: 20’s, Lucinda’s estranged son.  Seemingly cold and bitter, emotionally torn.

LUCINDA CELESTE: (This role has been cast) 50’s, an educated woman and former freedom fighter.  Her dignity and reserve mask a deep passion.
