Cardinal Sins is a new musical by Alan Bryce, Chana Wise and Milton Reame-James. It's a nontraditional love story set in the year 1200. Musical style: English folk/rock and medieval. It's about Stephen Langton, the man who wrote the Magna Carta - the foundation of Western democratic thought.

Other details:
Alan Bryce's show: For All That, was nominated for a Gregory Award as “Most Outstanding New Play” of 2015. Lyricist is Chana Wise, who was a Richard Rodgers Award finalist in 2015 with her book and lyrics for Mary Marie. Composer is Milton Reame-James, a rocker from the seventies. He scored the British crime drama, Lords of London, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. John Henry Davis has directed everything from OZ on TV to opera at Lincoln Center. He has also directed at the Kennedy Center, the Mark Taper Forum and the Dallas Theatre Center.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
This is a large cast. 8 of the 16 roles have been filled.

The show takes place over 35 years, so your age is not particularly significant. However, we shall be primarily, but not exclusively, looking for male and female actors in their mid twenties to mid thirties.

STEPHEN LANGTON (male), the lead, Archbishop of Canterbury. Equity contract if required. Idealistic, strong, naïve, compromised by circumstance, who ultimately re-discovers the power of his dreams.

BELINDA (female), a peasant. Strong, intelligent, companion to the female lead, Alais.

ABBESS (and other parts - female), could be older, 40's or 50's. Leader of St. Catherine's monastery.

KING JOHN (male). Stephen's adversary. The villain of the piece. Cynical, dissolute and an efficient but ruthless administrator.

JAILER (and other parts - male). Looking for a character man who likes to play comedy.

REGINALD (and other parts - male) Self-satisfied acolyte of the King. Manipulative and Machiavellian..

PEASANT WIFE (and other parts - female) Coarse. The medieval equivalent of trailer trash.

HUGH DE NEVILLE (and other parts - male) One of the barons who opposed King John and instigated the Magna Carta. A man of principle.
